RIM Volunteers in Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu volunteer program has two types of volunteers: the RIM Volunteers and Senior Fellows.

RIM Volunteers:

Three  women volunteers have been working in the Aathur block of  Dindugal District since December 2000 under the  guidance of Gandhigram Trust as a mentor NGO. Three male volunteers have been working in the Madurantakam and Acharapakkam blocks in the Kancheepuram district. The nodal NGO for Tamil Nadu state- Makkal Sakthi Eiyakkam gives them the much needed guidance and support.

RIM Fellows:

Tamil Nadu also has identified 7 volunteers who have had experience in rural development. These  volunteers work independently of any mentor NGOs and report directly to the state coordinator.

Sri. Kumaravelu, the senior-most of them, plans to cover 10 villages and has been working since April 2001. The other six have commenced work on 1st September. These fellows are supported by a 'Support A Volunteer' scheme, mobilized by the RIM-USA group in Flint, Michigan.
