Background

A
patient and cool worker, Sumanto Mohanty served the
cyclone-affected with a sense of commitment. He made a dent moving with
hordes of people cleaning the environment and later, retrieving
irrigation infrastructure through “food for work” programs. |

After his University
education Sumanto Mohanty got involved in literacy evaluation
research, and that was how he came to know the vast and varied spheres
of social work.

volunteers training on village level contingency planning for Disaster
preparedness
- Community level
awareness building on community based disaster preparedness (CBDP)
- Disaster
Management Teams (DMT) formation at the village level.
- Follow ups of the
previous trainings and village level information updating.
- Forming
village task forces and training these task forces on skills and
methods of evacuation, rescue, relief management and contingency
planning components.
- Training
community level volunteers to take on lead roles in these task forces.
- Helping
with rescue and rehabilitation operations in the Erasama block during
the July 2001 floods.
