RIM Impact Assessment Report
RIM commissioned an impact assessment report by an external party to study the effectiveness of its work in Tamil Nadu. The report is an interesting account of the progress of RIM in Tamil Nadu, and the commendable work being done there. The report concludes that the cost/benefit ratio of supporting a RIM volunteer is very low compared to other development interventions and the tangible results of their work is significant. There are important points raised about the lack of a concrete mission or ‘corporate plan’ for RIM, and the lack of clarity in the movement aspect of RIM currently. The RIM group at Flint, Michigan
"We feel that the vision of RIM is a part of us, not that we are a part of
RIM"
The RIM, Flint group has undertaken to support the entire volunteer effort
in Tamil Nadu for the year 2002. The RIM, Flint group is supporting 6 Samaj
Shilpis (Stimulated Volunteers), 8 Fellows,and 1 Coordinator (Part-Time) for
RIM Tamil Nadu. The total budget for supporting them is approximately 10000$
for the calendar year 2002. They also have an egroup 'im-sv-tamilnadu' which
they invite anyone interested to join. The RIM co-ordinator in India for TN,
A.L. Rangarajan, posts all the updates there, about the work being done in
India. Swami Ganapathy, one of the RIM Flint members has written a short
mail, describing the RIM Flint Michigan group, and their activities and
ideas. Its pretty inspiring. Among other things the group does volunteer
work locally in their area as well as support the volunteers in India. "We
feel that the vision of RIM is a part of us, not that we are a part of RIM".
Maybe RIM volunteers in other cities can get inspired by this group and
reactivate themselves ?
