Objective: To put science and technology in the service of India's poorest people. To enhance self-reliance by building on traditional knowledge and experiences, upgrading local skills, using local materials and generating employment opportunities.

Areas of work: Innovative work in water resources management, environmental quality monitoring and post-disaster reconstruction.

Programs: Capacity building of the poor to prepare plans for their own development, to implement them and then to manage the assets created.

Recognising PSI's work in participatory water resources development as a model for other organizations to follow, India's Ministry of Rural Development has selected it as a training centre.
